Arup Ratan Mukherjee: A Legacy of Indian Classical Music
Arup Ratan Mukherjee, born in the ancient city of Pataliputra, possessed an innate talent for the sitar. His exceptional skills were nurtured under the guidance of his mother, Smt. Nilakshi Mukharjee, and later from the esteemed Late Arun Kumar Chatterjee.
In August 1986, Arup Ratan Mukherjee embarked on a transformative journey as a disciple of Pandit Jotin Bhattacharya, a revered disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan Saheeb of Maihar. Under the benevolent guidance of Pandit Bhattacharya, Arup Ratan Mukherjee dedicated his life to the pursuit of pure Indian Classical Music, training a select few students in the sacred traditions of Mian Tansen.
Arup Ratan Mukherjee’s unwavering commitment to his art has been recognised through numerous accolades. He is one of the founding trustees of the Baba Allauddin Khan Music Foundation (Registered) Delhi, which spearheads the promotion of Indian Classical Music and emerging artists through regular Baithaks and significant concerts. - In recognition of his exceptional artistic prowess, he received the Naad Sadhak award from Sangeet Kala Kendra Agra.
